Radiology

The Radiology Department provides quality state-of-the-art Digital Diagnostic Radiology, Open MRI, and CT services for our beneficiaries (Active-duty personnel and family members, TRICARE PRIME patients, TRICARE PLUS PATIENTS, and VA patients) in Southeast Alabama and the surrounding area.

Services Provided
We offer the following services:
  • Diagnostic Imaging ( X-Ray)
  • CT (Computed Tomography)
  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

CT Instructions and appointment guidance:
  • Please arrive no less than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time.
  • Females may wear a sports bra if it does not have any metal to include clasps or underwire.
  • Please remove all piercings and jewelry prior to your appointment.
  • If you wear clothing that does NOT have metal zippers, buttons, sequins, metallic cooling and/or antimicrobial material, then you will not be required to change. *Please note that certain exceptions may apply depending on the type of study.
  • If you have children under 12, please ensure alternate childcare. Children cannot attend the appointment with you, as this is an LAHC Commander’s Policy. No exceptions.
  • Each appointment will take approximately 30 minutes, depending on your study.
  • It is NOT necessary to check in with the VA Clinic or Primary Care prior to your appointment.
  • On the day of your CT appointment, report directly to the Radiology Department which is located inside the main building.
MRI Instructions and appointment guidance: 
  • Please arrive no less than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. 
  • On the day of your appointment, report directly to the MRI suite which is located outside of the main Lyster Army Health Clinic (LAHC) to the far left. There is a designated parking lot/space for MRI patients located directly in front of the MRI building.  
  • It is NOT necessary to check in with the VA Clinic, Primary Care, or the main Radiology Department for this appointment. 
  • Each appointment will take approximately 45 minutes. If you have children under 12, please ensure alternate childcare. They cannot attend the appointment with you as this is an LAHC Commander’s Policy with no exceptions. 
  • If you wear clothing that does not have metal zippers, buttons, sequins, metallic cooling and/or antimicrobial material, or clasps then you will not be required to change into paper gowns. Please note that certain exceptions may apply depending on the type of study. 
  • Please remove all piercings and jewelry prior to your appointment. 
  • If your doctor has prescribed you any medication needed for anxiety or claustrophobia for your MRI, take it approximately 30 minutes (or as directed) prior to arriving for your appointment. A chaperone will be required and must be present to drive you home. 
  • Females having a scan of the BRAIN or facial area should not wear mascara. Make up can be worn for any other scans. 
  • Females may wear a sports bra if it does not have metal clasps or an underwire. 
  • If you have, or have ever had, any ELECTRONIC devices implanted inside of your body, such as Pacemaker, Defibrillator, Stent, Aneurysm Clips, Cochlear Implants, or Loop Recorders, please contact Radiology prior to your appointment to verify compatibility. Different scenarios may exclude you from being able to safely conduct your MRI at this location.
